SILVERTON - The Portland Monarchs' four-year Northwest run of dominance came to a screeching halt in a 24-14 playoff loss to the Springfield Buzzards at Silverton High School.

The No. 1 ranked Monarchs (12-1) scored just one offensive touchdown and were held to 166 yards of total offense in the defeat.

"We did everything wrong and they did enough things right to win," Monarchs coach Aaron Fentress said. "We choked and they deserved it far more than we did. Even had we won, we wouldn't have deserved to. We played like garbage."

MILWAUKIE - During the Portland Monarchs 68-15 win over the Portland Raiders earlier in the season, some Raiders players warned the Monarchs that things might be different when the teams met again.

They were right. It was different. It was worse.

The Monarchs dominated the Raiders for a second time, 66-6 to end the regular season with a perfect record.

The Portland Monarchs continued their winning ways with a 42-8 win over the Springfield Buzzards Saturday at old Silverton High School.

The Monarchs (9-0, 7-0 PFL) jumped out to a big early lead and the defense kept the Buzzards out of the end zone until the final minutes.

Monarchs revive offense, defeat Colts 49-27

SILVERTON, Ore. -After two weeks of uninspired and generally sloppy play, the Portland Monarchs’ offense rediscovered its high-powered ways during a 49-27 win over the King County Colts Saturday at Silverton High School.

Portland scored just five offensive touchdowns over its previous two games - both victories - before scoring seven Saturday, including two scoring receptions each for wide receivers, Zack McGinnis and Isaiah Smith.

Monarchs complete long road trips with 34-14 win at Bellingham

SISTERS, Ore - The Portland Monarchs registered their third consecutive 60-point game Saturday during a 63-0 win at the High Dessert Lightning.

And it wasn't that close.

Portland (5-0, 3-0 Pacific Football League) jumped out to a 42-0 lead in the first half before the Lightning requested a running clock in the second half.

Monarchs destroy new rival Portland Raiders, 68-15

MT. ANGEL, Ore. - A rivalry was born Saturday night at Kennedy High School in Mt. Angel and it wasn't a pretty beginning - for the visiting team.

The Raiders did more trash talking, chest bumping and finger pointing than they did actual playing and the Monarchs made easy work of them, 68-15.

Monarchs open PFL play with 62-0 win at Klamath Falls

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Portland Monarchs opened play in the inaugural week of action in the Pacific Football League with a 62-0 win at the Klamath Falls Crusaders.

Portland (3-0, 1-0 PFL) led 42-0 at halftime and got five touchdown passes form quarterback Russell Schneider completed 18 of 27 passes for 342 yards, 251 in the first half, and five touchdowns. Running back Jeremy Jones led the team in rushing with 95 yards on four carries and scored twice. Jason Hoyt also rushed fro two touchdowns.

"We are improving but I'm afraid this wasn't much of a test," Monarchs coach Aaron Fentress said.

The Monarchs make their home debut at Silverton High School Saturday against the Portland Raiders,who won 15-0 at the High Dessert Lightning (Sisters).

BATTLE GROUND, Wa. - The second annual Border War held between teams from Oregon and Washington featured a much anticipated matchup three years in the making.

While the Monarchs were making easy work of their foes from the Washington Football League in the annual GNFA title game, one power from that league routinely failed to get its crack at Portland.

Monarchs unimpressive in 28-9 season-opening win at Umatilla

PENDLETON, Ore. – The Portland Monarchs stumbled their way through a 28-9 season-opening win against the Umatilla County Panthers Saturday night in Pendleton.

In a game marred by dropped passes, penalties, missed opportunities and incompetent clock operation, the Monarchs were their own worst enemies in an unimpressive debut.

“I would give us a ‘D’ grade across the board,” Monarchs coach Aaron Fentress said. “Hopefully we will learn from this that there is a difference between being talented and playing well.”
